Elmira, NY—Howard and Judith Tullman, noted Chicago art collectors, have donated two important paintings to the permanent collection of the Arnot Art Museum. The works are an early oil on panel by Daniel Sprick, "African Violet with Fruit" (1980), and a watercolor, "Room #3 with Marigolds" by Carolyn Brady. Both works are currently on view in the Museum’s East Gallery.
Sprick’s work is in the collections of the Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock; Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, OK; Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO; The Evansville Museum of Art and Science, Evansville, IN; National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC; and The Hunter Museum of Art, Chattanooga, TN.
Carolyn Brady’s paintings are in the collection The Arkansas Arts Center; The Art Institute of Chicago; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; New Britain (CT); Museum of American Art, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution; among many others.
The Tullmans have amassed a large and eclectic private collection which they share by making gifts to museums across the country. They were made aware of the Arnot and its dedication to contemporary realism by Susan Gescheidle, director of Chicago’s Gescheidle Gallery, who facilitated the gifts.
"We’re delighted to add works by Dan Sprick and Carolyn Brady to our collection," said John D. O’Hern, the Museum’s Executive Director and Curator. "We’re especially pleased to have been selected for these gifts by two such distinguished collectors," he said.
